Material Handler A (1st Shift)

The Material Handler loads, unloads, and moves materials within plant, yard, or work site.

Responsibilities (Text Only)

- Performs safety inspections on required equipment. Reports any discrepancies to Plant Engineering and does not operate equipment until discrepancies are corrected.
- Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
- Opens containers.
- Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
- Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
- Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
- Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
- Studies receiving or shipping notices, requests for movement of raw materials and finished products, and warehousing space available to develop schedule for material handling activities.
- Confers with supervisors of other departments to coordinate flow of materials or products.
- Removes samples of materials, labels with identifying information, and checks materials for compliance in accordance with established Quality Assurance Standards.
- Records incoming/outgoing inventory on BPCS.
- Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
- Ensures conformance to all aspects of the ISO 14001 standard and Construction Specialties’ Environmental Management System (EMS), including its environmental policy while performing job functions that may have a significant impact on the environment.

Qualifications (Text Only)

- High school graduate/GED required.
- Minimum of 6 months manufacturing/related experience.
- Demonstrated ability to read blueprints.
- Ability to continuously lift 25lbs and sometimes lift 60lbs.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Forklift skills strongly preferred.
- Computer literacy.
- Ability to work 1st Shift (6:00am - 2:30pm, M-F), plus overtime when available.
