Impact Specialties is a flooring and wall protection distributor/manufacturer that services the major retail, restaurant and hotel chains. We bring products in from all over the world to service these unique market needs. Impact Specialties is a division of Construction Specialties, a large global architectural products manufacturer. This gives us the financial stability of a large company but the speed and agility of a small company.
SUMMARY: Responsible for acquiring, purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies for requisitioned material. Negotiates with vendors to obtain quotations, prices and delivery times. Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine if they are compatible with Company’s objectives. Oversees purchasing logs and records to ensure accuracy and follow through. Monitors quality of goods by reviewing costs, schedules, timeliness of delivery and conformance to specifications. Responsible for inventory control. Controls raw material stocks, components, purchased items, operating supplies pertinent to meeting SBU Manufacturing/Customer Service. Works with SBU members to determine strategic direction of materials management. Manages some or all of the following: Production Schedulers/Planners, Inventory Specialists, buyers and all activities concerned with production scheduling.


- Supervises the maintenance of optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements while minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges.
- Oversees the purchasing and/or contracting for materials, supplies, equipment, and services for the SBU, in addition to all inventory items. Confers with requesting parties when specific sources are requested. Investigates and solves problems resulting from material shortages, however caused.
- Responsible for continuing programs of exploration for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery. Establishes and varies inventory levels, order points and procurement lead time for delivery to assure adequate operating stocks to facilitate manufacturing schedules and customer services.

- Works with the SBU and R&D in the development of new products and materials.
- Establishes and maintains purchasing practices and policies to insure honest, fair, and ethical relationships with vendors. Keeps informed on legal matters that affect purchasing policies.
- Shows an annual cost saving on materials/outside services equal to a percentage annually determined by management.
- Maintains vendor performance reports, as required.
- Performs diversified duties requiring considerable judgment to analyze requirements and proposals from all sources of supply for agreement with specifications, delivery and price.
- Responsible for ensuring that all ISO policies and procedures are followed both internally and with vendors. Works with QA and in establishing corrective actions for non-conforming materials/vendor performance.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
- Supervises Production Schedulers/Planners in determining production/material requirements, providing schedules and other information to production personnel and production supervisors to fabricate products to meet customer requirements.
- Supervises Inventory Specialist in determining controls and measurements for inventory accuracy. Coordinates with other departments to set transaction policies and reports. Coordinates inventory transactions and activities. Develops and monitors cycle counting activities.


- Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; with courses in Business Administration, Purchasing Management and three to five years progressively responsible purchasing/material management responsibility; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in negotiating vendor/outside service contracts for purchase price, lead times, and delivery. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and JIT practices.
- Experience in Material Requirements Planning and purchasing in an enterprise resource planning system (ERP).
